I have both of the above antennas in my attic (they work great)...also have the Radio Shack VHF-Hi/UHF base antenna that only sells for about $23 - works tremendously - as long as you do not need good range on VHF-Low.

Do you guys have tall attics?, you must for the height of the scantenna. It's about 8 foot right?. If so the people that putting antenna's in there attic will have to check the heights first before purchasing antennas.

I use a homemade version of Bob Grove's basic dipole, with the lower element about 4 feet long and the top element cut to 18 inches. It fits in the attic and works great. If you want to use the full Scantenna, but it won't fit, just cut the long top element to 18 inches, and cram it in. Keep it vertical.

I don't know if money is a problem, but try the Nil-Jon Multiband base antenna. The top three elements vary in size from 16.5" to 19". The lower four ground radial elements are each 23". It is advertized as a versatile VHF-UHF antenna providing very high performance for high or low applications. The receive range is 25 to 1300 MHz.
I just purchased one from Grove to replace my Scantenna antenna because it is advertized as being omnidirectional, but it really isn't. Try moving it from left to right and see what happens. I live south of Milwaukee, WI, and there are TRS all around me. I move the Scantenna in one direction, and what came in strong now comes in weak.
My antenna sits on twenty feet of tower, and it is too cold to put the new Nil-Jon up yet. This will be a spring job, but I heard many people speak well of it.

This is a good point. I have a tall roof line actually this is a storage attic above my garage with the pull down ladder from the garage for access. If you build a house this was a great use of dead space for storage and antennas!tonsoffun said:
