• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Is there such a piece of software (ScanRec isn't ready to do it yet)

That can record in vox, save to Mp3 and put the freq that was recorded as the ID3 tag in the MP3 file.

Or something like this.

IDTracker does not save in ".mp3" but rather ".wav". It does associate each separate wave with each separate frequency (or talk group). If you have enough disk space, ".wav" should not be a problem.

Is this what you are after?

Perhaps David or anyone else so inclined could add MP3 compression - the Blade MP3 encoder library for example - to compress the WAV data either in real time or as an optional secondary process.

I would need something that would allow recording and playback and that has the same capabilities as the Windows MCI interface. Also, for the sake of simplicity, I would not want to force the users to install any other software.
