Is there such a piece of software (ScanRec isn't ready to do it yet)

That can record in vox, save to Mp3 and put the freq that was recorded as the ID3 tag in the MP3 file.

Or something like this.

IDTracker does not save in ".mp3" but rather ".wav". It does associate each separate wave with each separate frequency (or talk group). If you have enough disk space, ".wav" should not be a problem.

Is this what you are after?

Perhaps David or anyone else so inclined could add MP3 compression - the Blade MP3 encoder library for example - to compress the WAV data either in real time or as an optional secondary process.

I would need something that would allow recording and playback and that has the same capabilities as the Windows MCI interface. Also, for the sake of simplicity, I would not want to force the users to install any other software.
