Which one of those would you recommend. what kind of audio cable would i need. would just an L and R / white and red audio cables work. I use some wireless headphones that i just plug these cables into the earphone jack of the scanner so i can walk around anywhere in the house and my girl doesn't get annoyed by hearing it all the time. would the L and R / white and red cables work?

I have used both of those and like the second one a little better. As far as the cable goes all you need is something to go from the speaker output of the scanner to the line in on the computer.

i went in the 2nd link you posted. Is there a good VOX program that you recommend Dwane??

I have been using RecAll-Pro beta and I am not having much luck. I keep getting message errors on my log for it like:

-Can't keep up with conversion
(mmdata acmstrconv) Mon Apr 18 00:16:56 2005
-Maximum warnings reported Mon Apr 18 00:16:56 2005
program started Mon Apr 18 18:52:03 2005
-Can't prepare waveout buffer
(mmoutdata) Thu Apr 21 01:38:54 2005

It will stop recording after about 2 hours or so, and if I try recording it in a Mp3 extension, it says that it cant playback mp3 format.
I am pretty new to the recording thing but I do like the VOX option. I

Recording program and cables..

First off, I must recommend a ground loop isolator (available from Radio Shack for < $15) Then I will recommend Xcorder. Love it! The Ground Loop Isolator will eliminate the hum you will probably get when you hook your scanner up to the computer.

I get no hum using Xcorder and just your standard everyday cable.

it's not from xcorder...

The physical connection of the two devices causes electrical ground paths to be formed between the devices, and between each device and the computer's electrical ground. Slight differences in these ground paths come through as noise in the audio circuit.

A Ground Loop Isolator (GLI) will eliminate this noise. The GLI allows the audio signal to pass through from your audio source to the amplifier, but it eliminates the electrical ground path. There is no loss of fidelity or volume.

It is unlikely (not impossible) that you will not have some sort of audio hum when you connect any receiver to your computer.

A question about davee.com scanrec.

Is there any problem leaving this run all day? I end up with a 2-3 hour file, is this hard on the computer? Since the hard drive is constantly writing this file, what happens if the electric goes out halfway though? I'm proably just paranoid. Also has anyone tried converting these files to an I-pod? Should be relatively easy, just convert the file to AAC.

Nope, I do it all the time! :D

It will just stop recording. I believe it will let you play back data that has already been recorded prior to the electrical failure.

Scanrec won't let you make MP3 files.

See http://davee.com/scanrec then click on FAQ.
