If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I want to be able to record the transmit and receive audio going in and out from an xtl 2500.
For the receiving audio I am able to tap into pins 21 and 14 to get the audio out into a recorder.
Is there a way to get the audio that the radio is transmitting also through a pin out or some other way to be able to record it as well?
any recommendations?

To use that you need the HKN6187A cable for the remote head
It plugs into the rear of the control head. The XTL5000 O5 has all of the audio processing in the control head not the radio so all the signals both transmit and receive are at the control head. The recorder out on the surveillance cable can be programed via CPS to provide both transmit and receive audio. So if you plug into the record when the radio is transmitting mic audio comes out and when the radio is receiving receive audio comes out, the audio level is fixed and independent of the volume control.

It needs to be a remote head

So the "Record Audio" option in the CPS "TX+RX audio" only comes out from this cable in a remote head configuration?
Does it need anything else for the audio, quality, sound etc. ?
That audio will be pretty clean (as long as your channel is correctly configured), but I always send audio thru a 1:1 isolation transformer.
YMMV.

what is size of the audio port? it doesn't look like a standard 3.5mm output.
Or is there another cable thats needed to attach to that output.
If you look at the HKN6187A, you will see that speaker audio will come out of a breakout plug on the wire, separate from the connector on the radio - yet in the same harness. If you want flat audio, your best bet is to get it off the accessory connector.

Its 3.5 and the audio level is fixed and independent of the volume control so it like flat audio. sounds very good
