I haven''t been able to listen to anything I record from either..using the built-in players in both.
Same deal using windows media player, and winamp..and on 2 radios, 396XT and the 396T..
Files are all time-stamped, and duration listed, just no sound...
All other media plays fine on the PC
Any ideas?

Do you have an audio cable connected from the scanner to the computer sound card?

I am trying the files that I saved locally on my HD, after downloading from the radio...

What you mean by "downloading from the radio"? The scanners that ProScan supports doesn't have audio stored in the scanners. Do you mean downloading from the internet?

[EDIT] Do you have just one cable from the scanner to the computer? That is a RS-232 cable and audio does not come from that cable. You need another cable, an audio cable from the scanner to the sound card.

In Proscan I went to Options- recording, then selected "recordings locations"
Set it to /proscan/recordings
So these files are saved just locally when you are logging?

I am using the USB cable from ScannerMaster...
What is the output for the jack on the radio, mono or stereo?...
My current sound card doesn't have a line-in jack, so tried the microphone on the front of the pc, no go...
I know it probably would sound lousy, but was just a test.
..
I checked the windows mixer and it's not muted....I do have a line-in input on on my onboard sound..just not sure if the 2 cards will work together...

Yes, saved locally in the "/proscan/recordings" folder. If you are running 64bit OS and ProScan is installed in the "\Program Files (x86)" folder, you will not see the recordings unless you click the "Compatibility Files" button on the Windows Explorer screen.

So am I changing the compatabilty mode for ProScan itself?
Choose XP SP 3?

*EDIT" ..I do see the files in the folder already

No don't change that. I'm talking about the Windows Explorer viewing files which has nothing to do with ProScan

For audio setup, I would start reading the Wikis first then I can answer your questions on audio.

Connecting Radios to Soundcards - The RadioReference Wiki

Ok will check out that link....
You lost me on "Windows Explorer viewing files" ..
I have all my folders set to view system and hidden files, If that was what you meant...

If you have a 64bit OS and ProScan is installed in the "\Program Files (x86)\ folder then when viewing files with the Windows Explorer you should see a button like in the image below circled in color red.

I don't have Compatabilty mode available as your image shows..
I'm Running win 7 x64 professional SP1
Even the default Music folder that Windows uses for each user, it is not there either

OK You can view them which is the main point. Didn't mean to get you side-tracked. All good. Now you just got to get the 1/8 in audio cable.

To answer your question earlier, it's a stereo jack so use either a mono or stereo cable.

If you use a mono cable, you will short L audio output to ground. Use only a stereo cable.
