Whether you choose to charge with the radio off or the radio on if the radio has been running for a long time and is very hot, which is normal, whether it's charging on or off, for safety the radio will not charge till the temperature comes down.

If you turn the radio off, plug in the charger and if the red light doesn't come on.. give it time, as it cools a little, the red light will come on.

Thanks for the prompt response but I am confused.
As by my response and the response of other experienced members here, this is a very hot radio, after it's on for a while feel around the base of the antenna, it's hot, which is normal.

As has been explained in various posts here, the radio will not charge if the unit is too hot.

Your radio is working within normal limits, turn it off and hook up to the mini USB connection for a charge, when the radio allows it, the red light will come on and it will charge.

You can also, as has been said, use the micro USB connection just to run scanner off the Wall wort without charging.

I think there have been several reports of the USB port going bad or becoming loose in many of the SDS100’s.
