Within the next month or so the Redding Police may be switching to a digital and encrypted radio system. This switch also includes a brand new communications center with new computerized touchscreen consoles which are going to replace the current Zetron Consoles. 2 new simulcast sites have also been added to the system. Eventually fire may also switch to the UHF band but for now they are staying on the low band frequency 33.7200. This information comes from talking to a dispatcher within the department.

I was talking to a guy from the comm company they are now using and he said end of june or july. They bought equipment that has encryption in it so it is possible.

Heard news that the digital switch over may occur this week. The new Motorola MCC 5500 radio consoles are in the process of being installed and most of the mobile radios I think have been installed.

Guess this town isnt facing any financial shortfall this year. Still think we should go to multi agency city communications...much better

I think the town got got a grant a while back which helped pay for the new consoles and pd mobile and portable radios. The FD is still on low band but I think in the future they will switch to UHF.

I would listen up REAL close tomorrow...............

Hey thanks for the response. I appreciate it. I am out of town but have access to the online scanner feed. I will have to listen in.

I was also wondering what type of digital radios did the PD get?

Was listening to the online feed this morning and it sounds like the Redding PD has finally switched over to digital. The person supplying the feed most likely has just a analog scanner since I was getting the digital buzz saw type sounds.

I would assume its the same code for all three frequencies but I'm not 100% sure.

I was listening to the online feed this morning and heard Georgetown get dispatched for a fire call and noticed that the Fire and EMS dispatches are going out on both the PD and FD frequencies now. Previously the dispatcher would just tell the officers that they would be dispatching the FD but nothing further than that. The dispatcher responds on both the 153.965 frequency and the 33.7200 frequency but you only hear the fd response on the 33.7200.

That's interesting. I was confused as to why I was hearing G50 being acknowledged over the PD band but now I know.

By any chance when you heard G50 getting toned out did you happen to hear the tones go over the PD frequency in addition to 33.7200? When I listened to the AFA call it was after they sent out the tones.
