Redoubt Volcan Erupts!!

An eruption of Mt. Redoubt began at approximately 22:38 AKDT, March 22, 2009 (0638 UTC). AVO is raising the aviation color code to Red and the alert level to Warning. Initial height of the eruption cloud is estimated at less than 20,000 ft above sea level at present.

As beautiful and serene Yellowstone National Park is lest we not forget as we walk its length and girth that , under your feet, is one of the most fiercist volcanos in the world the put Krackatoa to shame the last time it erupted. Yellowstone is alive and well as can be seen by the activity all around it. It is a matter of time before its next show. When it does happen, Yellowstone will be no more as we know it.

You are correct. I hope it will not be in my lifetime! It will certainly make one of the largest lakes in the US if it doesn't open our continent up to a connection with the Pacific ocean. As a retired geologist, I suspect the eruption will remove a good portion of upper California, most of Oregon, and everything between the west coast and Yellowstone.
