Also take a lQQk at the RS Pro-197 Digital Base/Mobile scanner on sale for only $299 !
Now this is a GREat deal ;) With WIN500 and a PC programming cable you'll be on your way.
You ask about lasting, you can also bump the warranty out to 2yrs for $44.99 or 3yrs for $59.99 .
A shameless plug for my Radio Shack company right guys :)) Sale ends this Saturday !

Any of the current flavor of digital trunking scanners will cover the Military TRS's quite well. You should buy the programming cable and software to program the scanner. As a Premium Member of RR you can direct download the systems via the software.

Hello Darkwolf I don't know if you missed it on the other thread but Hogdriver stated that Tinker's P25 is mostly "encrypted". That means no scanner can decode and hear those transmisions as I understand it.
But if you can figure out how to program a 396 you will be able to hear a lot of things just not "encrypted" transmissions like EMSA in OKC or Tinker comms. etc.

Yup and we have lots of reading for you to do (so what else is new?). There's an Easier to Read guide for that radio (online and printed), our DMA FAQ, links to compatible software, and even an article on connecting to your scanner via USB. All of this can be found here...

Sorry Darkwolf I know nothing about the 396 Uniden nor do I know much about Tinker communications as that has never been an interest of mine during the 30 years or so I have been scanning.. However there should be plenty of people on this forum to help you out.
Best of luck.
