Hello all! Was wondering if any of you have caught wind of an update to the apparatus numbering schemes in Region C? So far all I’ve heard is that the numbering for aerials will be changing from ###2 being any aerial and with ###5 being reserved for rescue aerials to ###2 being aerials between 55’ and 95’ while anything over 95’ will be changed to ###5. I think West County and Metro West have started this process as the old 3515 now goes by 3512 although it’s definitely a rescue aerial and 3312 now goes at 3315, as far as I know neither are new apparatus just a change in radio nomenclature.

Does anyone know if these are the only changes, and when they officially take effect? Thanks!

Years ago, ###5 was any aerial with a pump (quint) and ###2 was supposed to be just an aerial. There wasn’t any aerials like that so a lot of them just used ###2. AHJs can number their apparatus whatever they want. Typically it’s always just been what sounds better when you say it and that’s what they go with. Rescue aerial is just another name for a quint around here. It specifically means it carries extrication tools.

Community 3822 and Clayton 3212 are both technically quints and are over 95’ so who knows

Yeah, I knew it was up to the dept I was just curious if there’s been updated standards been put out since I saw someone mention something on a Facebook post. Only for sure changes I’ve noticed so far are Metro West 3312 now goes by 3315 and Monarch 2242 goes as 2245. West County 3512 might just be their spare quint but I thought that went by 3595.

This is because they might be using reserve apparatus. They must change their number to what type of apparatus they are using. Additionally, You might hear some of them have numbers in the 9s for ex 2292. This is because this is their reserve truck that is in service as first out.. I believe 2245 was actually 2395.. Monarch was just borrowing 2395 until they could get their reserve truck back in service. Soon again it should go back to normal I would assume. I do also know that Monarch has multiple units on order with the pass of Prop F.

Apparatus ending in 5 are called a triple combination truck. For instance, Creve Coeur 2315 is a pumper/aerial/rescue. In the same way, Pacific 6115 is a pumper/tanker/rescue (not aerial).

Thanks for the info, was just curious if there was anything else big in Region C policy-wise. I only ask because now Metro West 3324 and 3354 are 3320 and 3350 respectively as well.

Additionally, I suspect Boles FPD has switched their agency identifier, I've heard 5516, 5534, and 5544 so far but I don't monitor Franklin county often.

interesting, how things have changed. Now numbers change based on ladder length... 🙄.
Always someone having to change things that work just fine. Fire administration had turned overly political years ago, seems like it got much worse now.

I spoke to a few old timers and they hate all the computerized junk that runs the fleet. computers not connecting, bogged down and running slow...

Now someone in charge of the area screwing with the numbering system. It never stops, 😑
