Today I have been getting a control channel on 868.6250 which is not a red control freq in the database. Anyone have any ideas why? I am in New Hamburg fyi.

Bluwest:

At the moment the Waterloo EDACS system is undergoing some changes. The LCN's as posted were correct but it's anyone's guess what it will end up like.

Control channels are constantly changing and the original control channels mean nothing at the moment.

You are not crazy.

Patience!

Do a search and you'll see all sorts of threads related to Waterloo Region and it's ever changing trunk system.

It seems with the system upgrades they are rolling the control channel through all 16 LCN instead of the first 5 like they use to.

Unlike a Motorola system there is no commercially available scanner that will do control channel only on an Edacs system so the highlighted controls channels on Radio Reference really means nothing. Just program all the channels related to the system is the proper LCN and enjoy.

Also it looks as though the upgrades are complete and the two control channels have been reduced to one again so that should make scanning a little easier now.

Ok, so which control channels are you referring to, and which one of those two may be eliminated from the list as outlined on the Radio Reference
LCN order of frequencies?

Thanks

NO channels need to be eliminated since there is only one active control channel at at time. All 16 channels should be unlocked now to be sure you don't miss any voice communications.

Go back to scanning the system the way you use to and forget there was ever a 2nd control channel.

Also heard 00-007 today. Sounded like someone was just leaving the mic open, probably during some testing. No clue who was on the other end.

Maybe you should create a new thread about the various and sundry talkgroups showing up on the K-W EDACS TRS?

Better yet, get a tapped scanner & run Unitrunker and submit new talkgroups to the database once you figure out what they are.

Search for discriminator tap and Unitrunker here in the forum. I'm sure the Wiki has information on it too.

Long story short, a discriminator tap + Unitrunker allows a computer to read much more information off a control channel than the average scanner.
