• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Thinking about a Relm KNG P150 radio for two reasons. First, I'm in NY & scanners are illegal in a motor vehicle. I'll use this as a two meter transceiver & that should cover section 397 of NY VTL...... Or maybe not, the law is poorly written & open to interpretation. Next, I want to use it in non affiliate mode to listen to a
VHF Motorola statewide P25 trunked system, not LSM (not LE). Will this radio actually scan the system, or stop on the first active CC & sit there forever, like my G5's do? I'm done with Unidens.......My ICOM R30, loaded with voice channels & ACC's hears more comms than my HP-1, HP-2, SDS100, 396XT, 996T, PSR 800 and 996XT combined

The system has 38 sites statewide & I can hear 2 or three from my qth. With an external antenna, I can hear about 7 or 8 sites. I guess Relm made this available so first responders could listen in on situations that involved multiple jurisdictions. So who has one of these & uses it to monitor a P25 trunked system? How do you like it? All opinions welcome!

Tnx & 73,
Bob

Do you have all of the sites programmed into your G5?
If you want to monitor a specific site you need to program that system with just the site info. So if your near 2 sites make 2 completely different systems, 1 with each of the sites you wish to monitor.

I have a KNG2-P800 and yes it monitors trunking systems perfectly with non affiliate scan as the software has RX only option.
You do have the option to lock on specific sites. I have to do this with a few agencies i monitor. Once you enable site lock, then you can do a site search and pick the one you want to park on. I am assuming it works the same way on VHF as its still P25 trunking.
The G5 should still work great for you other then the VHF antenna being internal.
Perhaps some tweaking of how you set up that system in the PPS is necessary.

Overall i am happy with mine. Accessories are harder to find since the radios are not as popular.
Just like Motorola they need to have the Trunking P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 options enabled.
