To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi everyone,
I am looking for some assistance with using the PCRSM programming software with the RELM RMU 25 radios that I have acquired. Here is where I am at. I built a programming cable. Mic pin 5 ground, pin 6 PCRX, pin 7 PCTX to a DB9 pin 5 ground, pin 2 PCRX, pin 3 PCTX. I connect the DB9 to a Keyspan DB9 USB serial adapter. This is connected to a Windows 7 Home PC. Have the PCRSM software configured for port 4 and that matches the device manager setting for the Keyspan. Here is where I am stuck, since this is serial comms, what is the baud rate and data settings? I have tried multiple baud rates to no avail. When I try to read from the radio the progress screen comes up for 10 or so seconds followed by a "communication errror". Next question I have, does the radio need to be set into program mode or clone mode before reading or writing data to and from the radio? There is absolutely no documentation available on the internet for programming these radios with the PCRSM software. I do have the field programming instructions and am able to make changes to the 110 channels that were already programmed in the radio, but no able to edit the channel names or add or delete channels. SO if anyone can helpmeet out I would graetly appreciate it. Once and if I am able to get this working I will create a step by step document detailing programming and will post or share with anyone who would need this help also. These seem like really nice little rigs and its a shame there is no support for them.
Take care and thanks in advance

Hi Ed,
I'm in the same boat with my RMU25; except I used a CP2102 USB interface and can't seem to get it to connect to the radio, either. I'm using the Relm Rem403 editor software and I've also tried the Kirisun PT8200 software since they're very closely related, but no luck...
The schematic makes me wonder if the unit could be programmed from the DB connector on the rear of the unit.
I'll keep testing..

Hi Vince,
Thanks for the reply. I have a schematic for the RMV50, I will look at that and see if that might work since it would be essential the same radio. Thinking that I might need an old computer with an actual serial port to make it work. I guess the PCRSM software is the RELM403 editor. There is a vendor on eBay that is selling a bunch of RELM stuff, I will reach out to them and see if they can help. They are selling programming cables, but the 49.95 price tag is what I paid for my radios LOL. I will keep digging. I did reach out to the Business that I purchased these from to see if they could help, but no reply yet. I got these from Main Trading Co in Paris TX, seems like a really good radio source. Hopefully a breakthrough can be had.

So I had a little time yesterday to work on this problem. I had posted this question over on QRZ, and learned that a Keyspan adapter is for RS232 and these radio were likely TTL, like Kenwood and Moto etc, LM radios. I reconfigured my RJ45 cable to match up to the Kenwood KPG46 clone that I got for Bluemax49 on eBay. Still no luck. All I get is the same communication error. I then updated the driver for the KPG46 and same result. I know the cable and the driver work as I use it all the time on my Kenwood NX700 Nexedge radios. I do have an Icon programming cable that came with the ID51A. I don't know what the differences are in cables but it seem they all have unique drivers that make them function. When I get more time I will go that route and build an adapter for the Icon cable.

After looking at the schematic, I don't believe that programming can be done through the DB15 ACC connector. Still hoping that someone that has accomplished programming these radios with the RELM 403 editor software can help out.
Until then I am determined to figure it out.

Why? That's is only a DB9 to RJ45 cable. I built one. It is not the cable. I am going to try and find an old PC with a serial port to eliminate the use of USB adapter.

Hi Everyone.
I haven't gotten as far as you guys have, but I have several relm rmv and rmu mobiles that we're given to me when we changed our system.
I was told that there's a fpp option to field program them, and was told that two units were set in that mode, but apparently not.
I have scoured the web and have found very little info. Any tips, information, suggestions, guidance and advice would be greatly appreciated. If there's any documentation that you can share, please let me know.
Thanks,
Dave

SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!.... Ordered a cable from TA Radios off of eBay..
173965665255 Used my Keyspan USB adapter and programming my radios was easy peasy...
Apologies to Jeepsandradios for being hardheaded..
Thinking about offering programming services for those who may only have 1 or 2 radios and the cable might seem a bit much..
Take care
