Hoopla on Newark EMS Channel 6

Its the annual Portugese festival in the Portugese section of the city. Pretty much defined as east of downtown, east of the RR tracks. I have friends that live there that schedule themselves a vacation or to be out of town the weekend of the festival

That channel was hopping Sat/Sun nights. University Hospital EMS were collecting patient after patient. Sounded like it was one big drunk fest. Also, I just read that someone was killed by a hit-and-run driver at the fest.

Newark PD frequency used for the fest??

I was doing a little monitoring Friday evening before all the craziness actually started while they were still setting up for the fest. I heard more than usual activity on 460.125, but transmissions were too abrubt to make any sense of what it was being used for. I would assume that 460.150 became active once the fest started since that's the frequency I believe NORMALLY covers the Ironbound area of Newark. Does anyone know if that was the case or were the Newark PD at the fest using something different? Just curious since I was away for most of the weekend.

Oh man, I remember this from last year. They kept on saying "man down". I thought it was a terrorist attack or something!

UH-EMS Tactical Service Unit (TSU) was the comm coordinator and all EMS was on 155.100 (REMCS Ch. 6). They had EMS bike teams and (2) gators (John Deere tractor-type units they use at stadiums) floating around and a Treatment area in place. They were going crazy all night - - felt bad for them.

It was an interesting Saturday night for those who monitored.
