Hey all, haven’t listened to Newark in a long time and I tuned in today. Couldn’t hear any Newark units, only the Orange units that REMCS dispatches. Are they encrypted again?

Thanks

I was able to hear REMCS doing there nightly aviation unit tests tonight, so obviously that stuff is not encrypted, I'm not sure about the other things though.

I monitor REMCS pretty much on a daily basis for both work and recreation when time allows. I want to say that around the start of October I noticed a change in the unit ID's. They previously had a four digit sequence of numbers to identify ALS/BLS/Rescue depending of which tour was working. Now they keep it simple, "EMS 1 and Mic 1 for the assignment." Haven't heard Rescue in a while but that is because I am told their newer truck, the smaller one they purchased within the past two years (or so?) was involved in an MVA. The supervisors still use 400 series numbers. And yes, they still do dispatch Orange EMS which I believe would be EMS 91 and 92. Hope this helps. If anyone has further, please feel free to correct the above info.

Maybe they renamed units and I’m confused. Before 1000s were BLS and 2000s were ALS. I’ll have to listen more or talk to some friends that work there whether they renamed units.

Yes, that is how it was up until recently. Not sure why the change.

The change is a result of a new CAD deployment, the previous two CAD software packages limited mandatory reporting as a result the numbering system being used for the past number of years. With the new software deployment, it allow them to return to the traditional call signs. It also reduced the confusion on who was call who.

FYI, Effective Jan 1 2023 UH EMS is now the primary BLS for the City of Orange, EMS 7 & EMS 8 are the primary units stationed in Orange along with a supervisor. Primary dispatch is on REMCS 1 on NJICS.
