To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.
If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

It was Christmas 1976 and my father bought 2 CB's, one for his car and the other as a base station for our home that was hooked up in my bedroom. We had a Shakespeare 'Big Stick' CB antenna on the roof wired with RG-8. I had a 12 Volt power supply from Radio Shack to power the home base.
I just recently came across a photo of me, a very happy kid, with his CB just out of the box on Christmas morning ! I was the envy of all of my friends at school when I told them I got 2 CB's and an 18 foot antenna for Christmas ... a was 10 years old at the time.
I loved the CB .... talked for hours to people all over. From our home in Clarkson, Mississauga it had a good range... into Lorne Park & Park Royal.

KZW8327 - 1978. I also miss those days. A Hygain Hyrange II 23 channel into a homemade quarterwave base antenna using RG-8. My parents gave it to me for Christmas. That pretty much was my introduction into radio and a couple of years later migrated into Amateur Radio.

Mine was KOD something (It was my mom's because I was too young). I still have it tucked away somewhere in the attic, along with the original Lafayette Comstat 25 that I got for Christmas in the 1960s! Funny thing is that I can still remember all the call signs of the guys in the neighborhood that I used to chat with until the wee hours of the morning. There where so many stations on the air in my Bronx neighborhood back then, that I could hit about 20 of them in a 15 block radius with just a piece of wire out my window!
