Just a thought…
I had a similar issue with a few Quantars located quite a distance away.
I couldn’t obtain static IP connectivity at the locations and came up with a sort of kludgy solution.
I added a refurbished ThinkPad (Model 470? at approx $250@) at each remote site and added dynamic ip internet connectivity at each site. Each laptop also runs a DDNS client app, which runs as a service in Windows 7 or 10.
They contact our DNS server to continuously update the IP address at the remote site.
To reach the remote repeater sites, just enter theFQDN for that site. ex. Quantar01.JoeBiden-is-a-Pederast.com / Quantar02.xxxxxxxxxx. / and so on..
I run a remote administration application on all of our PCs which I found to be much more stable than remote desk
. It’s “Radmin” and is incredibly stable, fast, compatible with nearly everything.. including Windows XP! If I recall, the license is around $30 per machine and NO recurring fees or charges.
Each of the laptops has appropriate RSS or CPS installed, and the laptops are cabled to the repeaters. If you have multiple repeaters or radios at a site, you can use multiple USB or serial cables depending on the radio hardware you’re using. This way you don’t have to purchase multiple laptops or PCs.
In addition to permitting remote access, at any time, I have each of the laptops recording audio from the repeater continuously.
Whenever a programming change is required, I can simply run the remote Radmin client app (client/remote app is free) on any of my laptops or PCs and Is as if I’m sitting in front of the remote keyboard and screen.
All the software I’ve ever used, this is probably one of the most stable and valuable tools available.
The most critical part of this concept is to make sure the laptop or PC you are using at the repeater/radio site is a good quality machine that’s not flaky. I actually used to buy and install APC “MasterSwitch” rack mount devices..”just in case”.
These are AC power distribution devices that enable you to turn power on or off (or cycle power) to each of the eight separate and isolated AC power receptacles on the unit. If a PC was not responding, the APC master switch can be accessed from a remote location and you can cycle power to any of the devices sitting at that repeater/radio site.. a bit pricey (if i recall— approx $500@) but when it’s 2 AM and snowing, it can solve your problem without that 6 Hour drive. 😊
