Hi,
What is a Remote RF Link or a UHF link? When I was programming my scanner with some conventional frequencies, there are multiple choices:

Fire/EMS Dispatch: 46.420
UHF Link to 46.420: 453.2875

-or-

EMS Dispatch: 155.280
Remote RF Link to 155.280MHz Transmitter: 460.28750

What does this mean? Is it just another frequency that has better reception depending on your location?

Thanks!

Links

One type of link could be used for a transmitter on low band located on top of a mountain that sends and receives via a uhf link to the base station that may be located in a valley.Their are many different variations for the use of links, I hope this helps.

Okay, so if the transmitter is placed in a central location of a town close to me, this is giving me better reception than the original band location it is transmitting from in the first place?

Usually, but not always, a remote link, or RF link is used to eliminate the need for a "radio tie-line" leased from the phone company. Sometimes these tie-lines are not very dependable and cause alot of communication havoc. By setting up an RF link with battery backup at the site, you gain a little more dependability.
