So I have both a SDS100 and SDS200 and would like to upgrade the antennas. I would like to get some real user opinions on weather I should get a Remtronix or Diamond (this may very well be a Ford / Chevy debate). I have a mixed bag of systems I listen to. P25 800mhz and DMR in the 150mhz and another in the 450mhz. I know that is a wide range of mhz and a single antenna is not optimal for all. The DMR systems I listen to are close so I dont think I will have trouble picking up with a 800mhz tuned antenna. The P25 800mhz systems are futher away and thats the ones I am trying to pick up better. I also know the best option is an outdoor antenna bur as of right now I would like to keep the discussion on radio mount antennas, Thanks in advance on your feedback.

Well I'm a Ford guy, so I say Remtronix I have 1 on both my BCD436, and SDS100. I mostly listen to 700/800 P25, however, am pleased with the range (mile wise) on both vhf & uhf as well. I have never used a Diamond, so I cannot speak from experience. Buy 1 of each, and return the one you find subpar in exchange for the 1 that works better for you? Oh sorry, Chicago burbs here Starcom21, and DMR/NXDN & Conventional analog UHF from the city proper just fine from 22 miles out.

Let me start off with I am a huge fan of Diamond antennas. I use them on my handheld scanners, my amateur radio setup, my scanner setup, and on my vehicle. 9 times out of 10, I have a Diamond antenna in use on my setup.

However - with the design of the SMA mount on the SDS100, I was very disappointed that my Diamond antenna would not fit. Since the SMA is recessed, the Diamond antenna would screw into the threads, but not far enough that the center pin would make contact.

This is of no fault to diamond. This is the way the SDS100 was designed and it requires an antenna with either a very long pin, or a thread mount that goes deep enough into the case so that the antenna can make contact with the center point.

I'm not a fan of using the SMA to BNC adapter. I'm not a fan of using a SMA to SMA barrel connector.
I did find someone who manufactured a SMA to BNC that would sit flush with the SDS100, but I don't think he is making any more of them.

So - I picked up a Remtronix 800 to try.

I was under the impression that the antenna would sit flush with the radio. It does, but you still see a chrome piece under the black coating of the antenna. A problem with me, not the antenna. I like things clean.

Overall, I am very impressed with the Remtronix antenna. It picks up the neighboring 800 Motorola Type II and P25 Phase 2 systems much better than I could have expected. It blows the stock antenna out of the water on those band. Truthfully, it isn't hard to beat the performance of many stock antennas..

So from a faithful and loyal Diamond user, I am very happy with the Remtronix purchase and would strongly recommend one for your SDS100 for 800 reception

Austin Condor is another solid choice for VHF/UHF and 800.

Shipping is extra, but I combine it with multiple items to minimize cost. Priority mail with tracking starts at $7.35 for a small flat rate box or padded envelope, but you can fit multiple items in one box or envelope. First Class is more like $5, depending on weight, but doesn't have tracking, so most people prefer Priority.
