Hi guys,
I was in Reno the week before last and stayed at the Peppermill. Woke up to the snow on Friday. While hoofing it out to the parking lot a spied an RFD Engine parked near the hotel doors, (didn't note the number though). It had an American Eagle electromechanical siren mounted through the front bumper. Has anyone heard one of these? I've never sen one except on the web, (smaller than a Q2-B). Do they compare at all in sound output to the Federal Q2-B? Just curious.

Thanks

I've not personally seen one for sure, but I Know that in Salt Lake City, Gold Cross ambulance put a electromechanical siren on some of it's ambulances. No idea what brand, but I've heard it. It's not as loud as the federal wind up on my fire engine, but it sounds very very close to the real thing it's a real attention getter on an ambulance, matter of fact it's quite out of place on a ambulance. But that's my tradtional thinking. Would I put one on a Fire Engine? Not unless it was louder than the one I heard. (problably there are different watt models for different applications.)

Growlers on Ambulances.

I was in the ambulance business when all there was were electromechanicals. The two favorites were the Federal Q2-B which is still in poduction and the B&M Super Chief, which looks like a jet engine and I think is still manufactured on a custom basis in LA.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess I should claify. The siren on our engine is the federal wind up air raid type siren. The new one that gold cross is using is purely electronic just like a police siren. But it sounds very, very similar to our wind up just no moving parts and not as loud.
