• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I`ll give ya my thoughts from the view of a listener of GMRS (no desire to get a license, i already have enough radios thanx :D), and personally i think this is kinda neat...from a LISTENING standpoint only, i do understand what manner of can o` worms this could potentially open if it`s not dealt with by those with the proper smarts, get this right and it`ll be a big convenience, both for users of GMRS and folks like me that just want to locate a repeater in whatever location i`m at and give it a listen, but get this wrong and the whole thingy could fly off the tracks, and i`m sure we don`t want that :). So that said, is this a good idea? Mabey, for the reasons i gave. Bad idea? potentially, again for the reasons i mentioned. One thought that just popped into my noggin would be to have the GMRS listing ether one, set out from the ham listings on the app, secured behind a password/username (likely the licensee`s callsign), or two, have the GMRS listing as a seperate update, agaon requiring a username/password to obtain. Really, those of us who ARE licensed will handle this.

I'm really trying to keep the RB folks advised of issues the GMRS community has. The Amateur and GMRS sections would be kept completely separate. It would be like an entirely different website. One wouldn't have any bearing on the other. The other great issue is availability to the unlicensed.... making it a potential data source to potential pirates.

I think adding GMRS repeaters in an amateur repeater book is like putting bicycle ads in a skateboard magazine, they don't really belong together.

The GMRS stuff won't be in an amateur database. GMRS will have its own website.

Project will not go forward.

As of now, the GMRS project in repeaterbook is on indefinite hold.

This is due to the GMRS community's opinions and the difference between how amateurs and GMRS operators want their repeaters utilized and how they view the two unique services.

This also frees him up to do further improvements and add new features. He has many in the pipeline.

And that was one of my worries too, having it availible to the unlicensed, i can dig why ya wouldn`t want to allow unlicensed folks to see that info (i`ve even thought privately that ham repeater info should not be availible to unlicensed people, but that`s just my personal take :)). What you propse is a good idea, only i would add having it behind a username & password, that way YOU, the folks that are licensed, can be aware of just who is accessing your website, i just listen anyway, so it don`t matter much to me, but when it comes to actually using the service, i say ONLY licensed users, it`s it and that`s that.
