Have you looked at the ID-O-Matic IV kit? At $39 for the kit, you cannot home-brew one any cheaper...

...for $10 more you can even add "Voice ID" to the total package.

You actually can...one can use a MSP43x (less than $2 from TI) and control all of the logic functions as well as create a solution for ID for roughly 1/2 the cost of a ID-O-Matic 4...just takes a lot more time and one needs an understanding of voltage levels and isolation (especially for audio).

Lots of people out there are using the Raspberry Pi (a Pi Zero runs $5) for controllers using a cheap USB sound card so that could be done for under $20.

I really fell out of love with the ID-O-MATIC when they jacked the price up for the 4...stopped being worth my time to use if I was just looking for an IDer (which most of the time I was).

I love to build raspberry pi for controller but i need a detailed guide for it. Will also try the ID-O-Matic soon. For now i try the cheapest one i found in ebay the innotek RC DRC2. Hopefully it will work or i can copy the board and fabricate it.

Open repeater is an interesting story. At first it started out as an independent project and after a few months the author found the svxlink project (echolink on linux) and began simply building a nice user interface and hardware board for openrepeater. I know prototypes are working but I don't know much more than that.

I kind of fell out on the project after that as I was really looking for a controller for non-amateur use.

. This company has a basic dtmf programmable controller with cw id for less than $50. They can be bought in kit form too. Integrated Control Systems - Integrated Control Systems. ;). 73, n9zas
