I was listening to NORCON Fire 1 (154.175 PL 123.0) the other day and I close called a unit transmitting on 153.950 PL 123.0 at the same time. This may be an input to a repeater somewhere. I was in Mahwah at the time and it was pretty strong over 154.175. I checked the database and see Mahwah uses UHF. Anyone know who has a repeater set up in that area?

It's Ramsey's repeater because they're the only NORCON town licensed on 153.9500. I honestly don't know WHY Ramsey has a repeater on 154.1750 and not the other towns, especially Wyckoff since they are the dispatching town for NORCON Mutual Aid. They also liste it as the input on 154.0250 which can't be the case. I have an e-mail into a contact I have in Ramsey to figure this out., I suspect they have different PL's on 153.9500.

I have a copy of the Ramsey FD plan and channel 10 is labelled "Fire 1 Repeater" and we have confirmed Ramsey Fire 1 is 154.1750 so base or mobile, a repeater is a repeater on fire 1.

jay,

That's not true.

To avoid getting sloppy with certain terminology here, I want to clarify something. A device mounted in a vehicle designed to capture signals from portable radios around that vehicle and rebroadcast those signals over that vehicle's mobile radio is correctly called a mobile extender.

A device at a fixed location that is designed to capture signals one one frequency and rebroadcasts them on another frequency - at a higher power - is commonly called a repeater.

A review of Ramsey FD's license with the FCC (KEG722) shows that they are authorized for a repeater on 154.175.

You didn't have to say that's not true, that IS true because THAT'S WHAT IT SAYS ON THE LIST I GOT FROM THE FD.Truth is they HAVE BOTH a repeater and a mobile extender on 154.1750 so I WASN'T wrong. Takes a hell of a lot more than a glance at the FCC databasse to say I was wrong I know damn well what a repeater is, I use them all the time. To be honest I was only quoting that know-nothing Warren Silverman's book. Looks like yet another bundler of his we can add to the long long list
Railtrialbiker and ScanDAL BOTH owe me an apology

Ahhh...Ramsey...well that would make sense. I picked it up full bars in Mahwah all the way down to Ridgewood and then it started fading out.

Justin...Can you post Ramsey's lineup...I checked your website and couldn't find it.

It was definately a repeater based upon the coverage.

What's with this hatred that people have for Silverman?

I stand behind my statement.

I clipped the specific part that, despite what people (FDs included) may commonly - and incorrectly - call things, is not true.

I'll put it up on my website in a few days, just go to the Municipal page and click on Ramsey above the main frequencies.
