replacement antenna for BC780xlt

Does anyone know of a replacement antenna that will improve reception (all bands) for the BC780xlt for INDOORS not an OUTDOOR one. thank you

Used to have my Diamond RH-77CA on the back of my BC780 with a right angle BNC connector.

What a difference -- it was like night and day. (But not as good as the outside antenna.)

BTW, it's also a great antenna for handheld scanners, despite being a bit long.

You could use a telescoping whip, or a rubber duck (like the RH-77CA mentioned above) attached to the antenna connector with a right angle BNC adapter, or you could use a mobile magnet mount antenna sitting on a metal surface, like a file cabinet. Either of these methods is likely to work at least a little better than the factory supplied antenna.

Cut you a piece of wire appx 60" long. Install bnc and put a clip on other end. Clip it behind curtain. My wife would not let me drill hole in living room to tap onto my coax for her 780 so this is what I did and it works.

I have also used mobile antennas with a mag mount sitting on something like a cookie sheet that has iron in it. I put this on top of bookcase in my florida room and it was almost invisible.

I recently purchased an rh77ca from www.gigaparts.com. Everything went just fine, I would use them again. The rh77ca antenna is much better than the one that came with my bc246t.

If you have a larger budget, I have an Austin Spectra with the "pole mount" attached to my bc895xlt and located inside near the radio. That outperforms the rh77ca. Purchased that from www.rfwiz.com, I'd buy from them again too.

Neat mobile RH-77CA trick...

If you're looking to scan while mobile and don't want to attract a whole lot of attention, there is (or was) a antenna suction cup mounting product at Radio Shack that basically consisted of a short run of cable with a BNC adapter attached to two suction cups on one end, with a BNC termination on the other end of the cable.

Here's the same idea, but with only one suction cup on the base:

I attached my Diamond RH-77CA antenna to the suction cup end, then placed it on the front windshield (passenger side) running vertical, and used a cheap suction cup hook (from Wally World) to hold the end of the Diamond antenna against the windshield. Kept it from bouncing around and brought in the signals pretty good while mobile. Plus you won't poke your eye out with the damn stock whip.
