Reset tk-2312 to defaults

I have a Kenwood tk-2312 that im having issues with. I bought it new, and it programed no problem.

Since we changed our race truck frequency, im trying to put the new one in, but it would not let me "Write" the program to the radio. I figured it may be the PC, since im using a mac with parallels, even though i can program tk-790's fine. So i restored the entire windows virtual computer back to when i first programed it. Still no good.

It will "read" from the radio, and goes through the read like any other radio, but then everything is blank. I try to enter a frequency and as soon as i enter the tx, and click away it disappears. Weirdness.

Something has obviously corrupted this radio and it needs to be restored to defaults. I have tried hold the PTT and 2 side buttons and turn on.....doesn't work. Nothing happens.

This is driving me crazy, and is an expensive radio, so i would apreciate any suggestions here.

Run the software, click on 'new', select the correct band split and feature level, click 'OK' then write it to the radio. Do not read the radio, and do not program any frequencies. Once finished writing, the radio should reboot and it should say 'unprogrammed' on the display(if it has one, it it does not, it should give an unprogrammed steady tone on the selected channel position). Close out the software with out saving. Re-start the software, read the radio and enter the needed frequency(ies) and then write to the radio. Hopefully it fixes the problem.

There is no "reset" option on these radios.

Ideally, when you first bought the radio, you would have saved the factory default setup, which is basically a blank radio. Each time you make a change, you should be saving the original programming before you make any changes. That way you can always roll back to the last known good setting.

I'd find a real PC and give that a try. While I know Parallels works pretty well, I wouldn't trust that 100%.

Hey guys, thanks.

Forgot to mention....somehow in the days ive been trying to get this to program i managed to get the radio to an unprogramed state....where the display reads "UNPROG".

So once in the software, it will not let me write at all. Just gives me error messages about the com port, etc.

However, it will let me read....but its a bad read as once its done i get that weird behavior when trying to enter a frequency.

Im stumped.

Figures once i post this i would finally get it. Turned out to be the programing cable. I had 2 so i tried the other one. Bingo. Works perfect.

Interesting as i know both were working a few months back.
