• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've been searching and trying everything except what will work!

I want to eventually get OpenGD77 up and running and I've tried installing the USB driver from Retevis and from the OpenGD77 website but I can't get any to work.
The USB cable from Retevis does not say what type it is but does it need the prolific driver?

Can someone pass along the installation so I can work on codeplugs?

Thanks to anyone in advance!!

I have the RT3S, as well as a TYT UV390 and MD9600, and each has OpenGD77 successfully installed.

I understand you frustration with your radio and getting USB working with the radio and PC. It can be very frustratimg at times, There are other frustrations related to DMR too. As i have said a number of times. "DMR is not for the faint of heart."

The USB issue could be a number of things - radio, cable, PC hardware/software,,, With that said, your best bet is to find a local "Elmer" or DMR guru that can get your through the frustration factor. I recently helped a local ham get OpenGD77 successfully installed and operatiing on his Baofeng 1701.

Someone on this forum may be able to get you "over the hump", but it will probably be a lomg, slow, tedious process. Find someone locally who knows DMR and hopefully OpenGD77. The firmware/CPS is very enjoyable to work with once you get past the USB "issue".

Try doing an Internet search for "Retevis RT3S cable". I poked around a little bit from the results and it would appear that, like the GD-77, the cable for this radio is just a "patch cable" and the USB to serial conversion is done in the radio. So no, it does not need the Prolific or FTDI driver. The one that came with the software should be the correct driver.

I also saw a post that said "doesn't work with USB 3 ports" so that might be something to try.

Silly question, but are you plugging the cable into the PC and the radio and then turning the radio ON? The USB-to-serial converter cables will quite often show up with nothing connected to them, but since it's the radio that is actually doing the protocol conversion the device will not show up unless the HT is powered up.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the reply and the hope

I have other radios and scanners that work fine and I've had USB problems before but this is just odd....

Hopefully someone will reach out!

Thanks again!

Above is how my day is going!

Yes I saw that about straight through but I just can't get any drivers to install. I left my Win 11 Pro box and used my Win 10 Pro and it's using USB2 so maybe that's why I got a little further. The cable does work as I was able to upgrade the firmware...
Now to find a driver that will stick.

Thanks for the reply!
