• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My husband just bought a Cobra 29 LTD LX BT CB radio and is looking for the best antenna he could get for it on his 18 wheeler truck.

The largest legally allowed antenna that can electrically retract like power windows would be ideal.

Something that doesn't have to be hard mounted or can easily be detached from one truck and reattached to the next is preferable.

Something like this: Diamond® Antenna ~ K9000LRM Motorized Luggage Rack Mount
with a matching 10 meter antenna (I'd recommend NMO mount) would probably be your best bet.

It won't hold up to the monster antennas some truckers use, but it's about the only motorized mount I can think of.. I even contemplated putting one on my Cascadia when I was OTR.

Is it a magnetic mount? My husband is company now but going to be owner/op probably by the end of the year.

If you click the link you'll see it's luggage rack mountable, or there's a trunk mount version.

The luggage rack version should work on the mirrors depending on which truck he has.

He drives an 18 wheeler, 53' commercial truck.

I drove an 18 wheel for over 40 yyears. And I've never seen or heard of anything like what you're asking. And it sounds like you are saying he slip seats. If so it will be harder to recommend an antenna without knowing just what type of tractors his company runs. Because of the mounting bracket/brackets needed. Also larger antennas work better than smaller ones. But there is no law saying about the size of one.

You can get away with a lot using a mag or NMO mag mount, and it would be very "quick switchable." Sounds like it might be a great project for a custom build, if he feels so inclined.

That one motorized antenna mount just folds the thing over. It's not the most 'robust' thing in the world, meaning no larger antennas. The more wind resistance an antenna has (larger surface area) the less likely it can be used with that mount. I was afraid to see the price, so won't comment on that.
A typical mag-mount should work with most vehicles. They require a metal surface to 'stick' to, so they won't work with all trucks.
