returning to scanning after 7yrs

Seems like I'm starting all over again. Can someone give me some insight to a good scanner for hearing Akron PD & FD. I'd also like to monitor APS channels. I currently have a BC200Xlt & a Radip Shack 20-409 I'm guessing I can't upgrade either of these. If like Akron is digital and I get a digital scanner can I still receive analog frequencies? $$ is limited but I want to monitor again.

Well Bambie you are going to need a digital trunk tracker scanner to monitor Akron. That is going to set you back in the $500.00 range. Lot's of activity but well worth the investment if you into scanning

From GRE/Radio Shack the PRO-96 is in my opinion the best Digital Scanner(but then again I have not used the uniden)

From Uniden the BC-796, and 296 are the best choices

I think for a newbie the PRO-96 is the way to go...then you don't have to worry about digital settings...it's all done for you!
