• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

lol..happens every time, was using my backup CB (cobra 29) in the tanker the other day, not my normal truck. The wires in the truck weren't marked, didn't have time to get a multi meter or tester...sssoooo I figured what the hell got a 50/50 shot right...will long story short I burnt up my reverse polarity diode and the fuse for the power cord. I know it is both because the new fuse in the power cord blowns as soon as I turn it on, and tried my cig lighter cord, same deal. I know which diode to replace, but it calls for 2.5 amp 50 piv, my radio shack only has a 3 amp 50 piv. so I have two questions....

One - I need to know from the electronic types here if this will be ok, don't want to further damage my CB.

Two - I read on another site if you put two diodes in series with the bands opposite each other, it lets you hook the radio with power off either wire and the radio will work and won't blow fuses. I don't see how that will work, but if this is true, it would be just as easy as long as I am there to put two diodes in instead of one.

honestly if you are that careless you have no reason to even touch wires. you are lucky the wire was fused, you could have burnt the truck down because you could not take a few seconds to check.

Using two diodes back to back won't work. But, using a full wave rectifier will work. You'll still need to know how to make the right connections the first time, but after that, it won't matter.

lmao...careless...lol...lucky there wasn't a hammer nearby...did I mention I'm a truck driver. If you can't fix it with a hammer it's an electrical problem...that is how I knew to come here, already got it fixed it's a $20 radio I wasn't too worried about it, and I got a fire extinguisher right next to my seat..I

It appears you suffer from a deep hate of HAMS [maybe in part because you yourself cannot understand simple radio] IF you'd stop this warped CB mentality MAYBE you could become a ham as well [all you need is the discipline to study and take a simple test]

I really do understand some of your frustration I've seen it in many folks who can't be what in their hearts they really desire. Instead you live in your fantasy world and hang onto your CB and live with the Tim Taylor notion [MORE POWER!!!}

I wish I could say I've never made a mistake like that, getting the polarity backwards! But, 'stuff' happens.

As far as the CB'er / Ham thing goes, who cares? Very easy to 'cure', don't participate that 'controversy', on either side, simple.
