To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi All,

I have a Kenwood TK-730 and I am having difficulties making the “Revert Channel” function as I would like.

Here is some information about my setup:
Programming using KPG7D Software
Full alpha display
32 Channels
No microphone connected
Off hook scanning is enabled
Off hook decode is enabled

In Scan Information menu, I have Revert Channel set to “Last Called Channel”. I would like the radio to revert to the last channel that was received when scan mode is turned off. However, no matter what I selected for the Revert Channel setting in the software, the radio ALWAYS reverts to selected channel.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

I'm no expert on this, but if scan mode is off, then you will only receive on the selected channel.

Well im not familiar with kenwood nor its programming software, I dont know if this is in it but is there not an option for scan talkback? The last channel it scans and you key up it will allow you to transmit directly on that channel? and after maybe 5 seconds when nothing is scanned, you key it up and it transmit on channel 1 for example?

Something like that?

C138Kaysone, that is similar to what I am trying to accomplish. I don’t have a mic to do a test. I only use the radio for monitoring.

Here is an excerpt from the manual regarding the Revert function:
“Programmable destination channel during scanning when: 1. Mic goes off-hook(scan stop), or 2. Scan key is pressed (exits scan mode)”.

When I press the scan key to exit scan mode, I am looking to have the radio revert to the last channel received (Last Called Channel). However, this is not occurring. When I press scan to stop scanning, the radio always returns to the selected channel(the channel selected before pressing scan).

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks,

Joe

Hello,

Question, what is you priority setting in your options menu? If you priority is set, that's why it will not allow you to go to the last called channel. From what I am seeing in the software it seems that you can only use the "last called channel" option if you are not using the priority option while scanning. This is just from my observation in the software. Try changing your priority setting and see if that solves your problem. Good luck.

Ambdrvr,

Excellent suggestion, unfortunately I am still having the same problem. I did have priority 1 and priority 2 set for operator select. However, I rarely use priorities. I set both priorities to none, and I am then limited to 3 options for revert (1. Selected channel, 2. Last Used Channel, and 3. Last Called Channel).
When I turn off scan, I am still reverted to selected channel no matter what the setting.

I also did some testing with on-hook scan. I set the radio for off hook scan = no. When the mic is on hook, and scanning, I can remove the mic and it will revert to the last received channel. That part is working. However, anytime I turn off the scan (either mic on-hook, or mic off-hook) it reverts to the selected channel before entering scan mode.

I’m starting to think that the revert when scan mode turned off function was added in a later firmware version.

Cheers,

Joe
