RF amplifiers

Hey all, just getting started into the whole communications as a hobby kinda thing and just curious of a few things...Anyone using an RF Amplifier for a mobile radio. I have a Motorola Maxtrac 300 right now, and it works great, but I was just browsing around wondering how much more output power it would really help with if I was to get one later on.

My radio is VHF high band 40watt output

Antenna gain and height beats the heck out of power any day
