The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is going high tech. They are in the midst of a massive project to upgrade their dispatch offices with new computer assisted radios and call center. The project will cost some $465-thousand dollars. $215-Thousand dollars of the project is being paid for with a grant from the Rutherford County 911 board. The remaining bill is being covered by various county funding sources. Dispatchers are currently working out of a temporary dispactch center while construction is underway.
In addition to the new radios that will eliminate the problem of dead spots among patrol cars in some areas of the county, the patrol cars will be getting GPS tracking devices. The GPS units in each car will allow for dispatch to see exactly where each patrol vehicle is located in real time.

Just hope they dont go MotoTRBO. Even P25 would be detrimental because we all know what rural counties do when they go P25. Paranoid!!!

I seriously doubt theyll go to tvrts but they could. It doesn't matter anyways. If they go digital either way Rutherford County listeners are screwed. All these other counties are going full encryption on that stupid new statewide gods gift to radio communication system. I'm sure Rutherford will be the same way. Except the large towns they seem to have a head on their shoulders. For some reason it's the small podunk counties that somehow feel they need to 100% encrypt. Go figure. Digital is the worst invention for the radio hobbyist.

I spoke with a R.C.S.D. lieutenant a couple of weeks ago and he said the upgrade was in the dispatch center consoles only and they were NOT going to encrypt.

Very good. Nice job. I figured they wouldnt go to the TVRTS. It isn't all that. When Nashville upgrades as well they are NOT going to TVRTS as some folks have stated before. They're just upgrading to the 9600 baud equipment like Franklin is on. Btw, THP in middle Tn is very alive and well on low band. No digital trunking in their immediate future.
