I want to be able to connect the power leads from the 15X and the RH-96 to a single switch that will turn both units on and off. On my test bench, when I have the two units connected independently, I turn off the RH-96 first and it displays the message: not to turn off the scanner until the RH-96 is off (or something very close to that). Will I damage either unit by having them connected to a single power switch?

Thank you.

The message actually says that turning off the RH-96 will not turn off the scanner is is connected to. You will not cause any damage by turning one off before the other, but i would make sure that the power supply and switch are propery rated/fused/etc. I know first hand that the power cord supplied is very tempermental and could actually fry the RH-96 under normal conditions. I had to send mine back to Uniden after using the wall plug on the RH. Personally, i would use independent power sources for each. I use a splitter of the cigarette lighter. works just fine.

Thanks for the reply. The 15x will be in the trunk, and the RH-96 will be on my center console. I have a switch rated for 12-15VDC. The 15x power leads are fuse protected, and I plan to remove the cigarette lighter plug and replace it with a fused power lead.

That should provide protection to each device. When you say that the power cord supplied with the RH-96 is very tempermental, which end are you referring to?

Thanks
Steve

never found out. I used the AC from my 996 to power the RH when i was initializing the RH and fried it. Uniden replaced it. All is well now, check my shack photos. I did the same thing. 996 in the trunck, RH IN the dash.
