Heard today from a reliable source - a battalion chief in a neighboring department - that Richmond EDACS will be gone Feb 2011 and moving onto the new EBRCS. This comment came as he showed off his new APX 7000; point being that the P25 capable radio would be able to interop with Richmond FD. His home system, while trunked, is not P25 and likely won't be anytime soon. While he specifically said that EDACS would gone, there was no specific word on Richmond PD, or other PDs, as to their movement onto EBRCS.

Beautiful radio, by the way....

Per the latest EBRCSA newsletter, agencies in Western Contra Costa County will transition to the new system on March 18.

Any word on what they'll use for fireground? What other band besides 700/800 MHz did his APX have?

No idea what they'd use for fireground... Of course, Richmond FD uses the EDACS system now on the fireground, so, one could assume they'd use EBRCS there as well.

The APX - in addition to 700/800 MHz - was VHF. The radio was programmed with the Contra Costa County FD VHF channels, as well as Berkeley FD.

I was told by a Richmond PD Dispatcher that the new date for rollout was April 16th.. I'm going to miss hearing all of that.. and they are apparently picking up several cities out of their dispatch unit. Richmond, El Cerrito, Kensington, El Sobrante, and one or two others.. I asked about Pinole and Hercules since they shared some of the channels and he wasn't sure about those two cities..

What does that mean exactly? Are you saying those agencies are going to move dispatch services to Richmond?

El Cerrito, San Pablo, and Kensington are already dispatched by Richmond PD. Pinole and Hercules are both dispatched by Pinole PD. El Sobrante is an unincorporated area served by the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

El Cerrito San Pablo and Kensington used to be dispatched by San Pablo or el cerrito. When did that change?
