I just got my radio back from uniden to have the mini usb port replaced. 7 day turnaround. Impressive for sure.
I suspect the port was broken when my radio fell off the nightstand and likely fell on the side and jammed the cable/connector into the radio.
I ordered a mini usb right angle connector, it definitely has a lower profile-hopefully it will keep the problem from reoccurring. The issue is the adapter won’t charge while operating. Does anyone know of a right angle adapter that will charge?
Thanks

Unless you simply got a defective cable, the fact that it has a right-angle end would have no effect as to whether it worked or not. However, some cables simply do not have large enough wires to carry the charge current.

Make sure that 'charge battery when scanning' is turned on. You need to be using a USB adapter that can provide about 2 amps (2000ma) in order to both operate the scanner & charge the battery at the same time. If it had been trying to charge, but the power adapter did not have enough current output to charge and operate the scanner, the 'charge while scanning' option will be disabled. You'll have to reset it via the scanner's menu once you have a power supply with sufficient current output. As you probably knew, the 'micro' USB port can be used to power the scanner, but it will not charge the battery, and cannot be used to update Favorites lists or the main database.

Some of the cables have wiring too small, to carry the larger current needed to charge and scan. Taking a quick look at the 'right angle' cables on Amazon, very few have anything indicating the wiring size. Here's a three foot cable from Monoprice, that does have the larger wiring (the 24AWG listed in the description. https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-3-...=electronics&sprefix=usb+mini+b+cable,aps,189
That's not a 'right angle' cable, but it does show the wiring you need (along with a power adapter with enough current output).

Cable/ charger has been working for years. No issues. When I put the adapter on, error, when I take the adapter off, no error. It’s the adapter

There are data only cables. Data only adapters are quite plausible,

I looked for one. I couldn’t find one that specified “charging”(except for garmin- which i assume has a much lower current requirement)
Great job on the service team on the turnaround. I was expecting several weeks.

i picked up a handful of connectors at a reuse shop for $5.
i also thought they were "defective" and then i found the pattern.
and the ones without power seemed thinner.

I’ll peruse Amazon again for “beefier” ones

I realize this thread applies to the SDS100 but I thought it worth mentioning, even though it only applies to the SDS200…

I have my SDS200 mounted on top of my dash in my pickup truck, in the glove tray. I used the mobile mount that came with the radio and found a data cable (Amazon) with a 90 degree bend to plug into the data port on the front of the radio (lower right front). I tuck the cable underneath the radio, still plugged in to the scanner when not needed. It saves me from having to fish the one that came with the scanner out of the glove box or console bin when I program and also acts as a dust cap for the data port because it’s always plugged in. (I didn’t like the stock cable when used as a dust cover because it stuck straight out and looks ridiculous.) [The right angle cable also eliminates the need to remove the Micro SD Card from its socket on the scanner and taking it in to the house to program. I don’t trust the socket and would rather not disturb it out of fear it would become loose from wear and break.] sorry, I don’t have a part number for Amazon, which is needed, when you order you have a choice of a left 90 degree or a right 90 degree cable… I couldn’t determine which direction applied-which side of the connector was up or down, so I ordered both!

Which brings me to my question… Why didn’t Uniden provide dust caps for the three exposed ports (LAN, Micro USB and earphone jack) on the front of the SDS200? Does anyone know if they are available after-market by themselves?
