• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have acquired a Ritron duplexer and am looking for any information, but in particular what transmit power it is rated for.
Ritron Inc. (c) 1981; possibly Model No. 1700017-C; 4 cavity duplexer, UHF

You might want to provide a picture of it. I don't recall Ritron ever manufacturing duplexers. I'll bet they private labeled a common manufacturer's model.

I recall seeing those in the Ritron Responder which was a repeater, or two paired as a telephone line extender FXS/FXO. These were crystal controlled radios, not much more than a couple of watts. I would not expect them to work well as a repeater duplexer.

Oooh. Uhhhh. I believe that’s the most impressively crappy duplexer I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen and tuned a bunch of um. It will probably handle 25w or maybe a little more but I’ll bet it’s intended for a 2 to 5 watt repeater. Even though it may handle 25w of transmit power it will not have much tx/rx isolation for repeater use. I’m sure it’s a notch only and should be easy to tune up with the right test equipment.

It is CrapTastic! I remember a friend of mine installed a couple telephone line extenders on this tiny island in the Florida keys so that a tiny resort could have a phone and fax line. He brought them by to check out the innards and I was very unimpressed. They did work however.

I thought the same thing. The tarnish doesn't help the fact that those seem like awfully small cavities...even for UHF.

The cavity size would be similar to a flat pack style but those have six cavities to achieve up to 75dB isolation, good for maybe 25w. With only four I would estimate 45-50dB which limits it to much less power and hopefully a clean transmitter. It also looks like it had double shielded coax like RG-142 but one of them was replaced with single shield RG-316.

The cans connected by a pcb and the striplines just hanging out in the breeze? Fabulous. I agree with RFI-EMI-GUY that this could very well be for one of those full duplex phone line extenders. It may have crappy specs but if it works you wouldn't have to worry about it as both ends are fixed. I fiddled with one that went from shore to an island in the San Francisco bay. Only about a mile and used yagis. Worked fine.

The transmitters back then were crystal controlled so the noise was less a factor.
