Why don't I hear the engine talk back when the dispatcher asks for a status report or a command?

That is because the support & tac ch's are simplex. You will hear the dispatcher fine & only hear the units only if you are close. RRU 1-3, Admin, Command 1 & 2 are on repeaters for both sides of the conversation.
