Hi All,

Just found out that Cove Communities ( Indian Wells, Rancho Mirage,Palm Desert) Medic ambulance use Cell phone to communicate with local hospitals for vitals and info. What I did not know is that they use blue-tooth for EKG's to their cell phones for hospital EKG info. in real-time. Is LACoFire still using Med freq. or they doing the same thing.

I can't comment on transmitting the EKG, by LA CO EMS policy, the UHF Med radio is still supposed to be the primary form of communications, however I know that most people use the cell phone since it is easier to use.

Yes, nearly all field to hospital is done by cell phone, but it is required that all paramedic units have radio capability to contact base station. Our rig at AMR still had a Johnny and Roy vintage biocomm. Never used it once, but we were required at the time to have it.

That was over 10 years ago, wish I *had* taken some photos. We would just check it once a month to make sure it worked, then shove it back in the cabinet. Yes, it had the little antenna and everything. Ours was in a black case, not red, but other than that, it was identical to Squad 51's.

That is very cool.... I am sure it had a large gel cell that needed charging. Back in the day cell units were 5 watts... now units are .9 watts. I remember the box being fiberglass epoxy type. I am sure that unit needed lots of charging. Did it have an analog meter for battery and watt signal output ?

This is a pretty new thing. All ALS units in Riv Co will be sending 12 leads to the base hospitals using Bluetooth within a year or so.
