    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm looking for remote speaker for my XTS2500 that will allow me to mute, or at least turn down the volume significantly whenever I am in my patrol car. Right now I have to reach behind my duty belt to shut off or turn on my radio whenever I get in and out of my patrol car. Otherwise I hear myself with a slight delay through my earpiece when I talk through the patrol car radio and that can get very confusing quickly. It looks like the RMN5038 is the best option for this, but I have two questions:
- How does the "high/low"" volume control work on the RMN5038? Does it allow the volume to go down to almost nothing or mute?
- Does the volume control on the RMN5038 effect the volume going out of the headphone jack?

I had this mic for my XTS2500. The High/Low volume just adjusts volume up or down a few "notches" from what its set at on your volume switch. It does not allow you to go all the way down or up like you are wanting it to do.

I do not recall if the volume buttons affect the headphone jack, I'm assuming it does.
