Hello Everyone

I am planning a trip to Nebraska and was wondering if I should program in the conventional highway patrol frequencies or just the P25 system.

Thanks.

As of last summer lowband was still active on the east side of the state. I haven't heard anything from the WY line to North Platte, and this winter I didn't hear anything around Omaha. There does seem to be a gap of TRS coverage between North Platte and Lincoln, but I am no way out that way often enough to confirm or deny.

I suspect that the north central and south central part of the state may still have lowband based on previous testing...so it wouldn't hurt to put both in "just in case" unless someone can state with certainity. The new patrol cars are still lowband equipped so..

I would be putting in the P25 system as much as you can. The eastern part of the state seems to be using it 100%, but that is just from a listener standpoint. It should be fairly easy to put in the sites that cover I80, assuming that's what you're coming in on.
Welcome to Nebraska! You picked a good time of year to visit.

NSP uses the P25 system statewide. There are plenty of coverage gaps and other issues with the system that they are still hammering out. They are starting to remove the low band equipment from their sites and their dispatch centers.

Suffering from ChC

I downloaded the P25 system from RR to my BCD996XT and while driving to Grand Island Couldn't hear Crap.

I thought my antenna had gone bad so I set the scanner to the FM band and was picking up distant FM stations so that theory proved wrong.

I found the article below discussing some of the problems with the system so I think the Troopers are just not using the system and are relying on cell phones to communicate.

Hopefully, that theory is wrong as well and it's just scanner operator error.

Anyway, I'm back in California and can't do any testing, push any buttons or turn any dials until my next trip to Nebraska.
