Rockland Co. and Digital ?

Does anyone know when Rockland Co. N.Y. might be switching to a digital system. I'm trying to decide if I should spend more for a digital scanner? Is the programming any more difficult with the digital scanners?

While a trunked system is in the works for Rockland County (atleast on the fire side of things), I don't believe there has been any chat or mumblings of a digital system.

Rumor has it that the Rockland Fire trunked system will be P25 digital

All public safety talkgroups on the system will be digital using the APCO-25 CAI. However, the UHF SIMPLEX FIREGROUNDS, which are currently in use, will remain analog.

I wish I had news for ya! I don't know if it's just taking longer than expected or dragging their feet. The frequencies are set, as they're using the analog frequencies now to construct the trunked system (from what I know).

I'll keep ya posted if I get anything.

all of the 470 channels licensed to rockland under the call sign wqdk886 are going to be the trunking system. the system will be P25 it will be for all FD, PD and EMS. the system will be a simulcast system. there will be a patch from low band to uhf for paging, the county is looking for a UHF paging solution for both fire and EMS.

all 6 of the 2 watt 460/465 fireground channels are staying analog fireground and will be fed into 44-control for monitoring and recording purposes.

there is no feet dragging going on, there are 2 issues that have to be worked out before any announcements are made:

1. final vendor contract negotiations are still under way and will be completed shortly.

2. the construction manager/ consultant for final site development and system design selection is underway and a vendor for that will be chosen shortly.

once that all happens (next week or so) an announcement will be made and a final system design will take place.
