Does anyone have an update on the Rockland County NY p25 system, or when and if Rockland County NY will go digital

Always claiming that they had no money. There is some talk that when Bergen gets their's up that something might and that is slim might come about. It might only be a mutual aid TG on the Bergen Co. radio system. Time will tell.

the committee is finishing up site selection now and will begin the detailed design phase as soon as that is complete. site selection has and is the most important part of the process. the money has been allocated.

I'm not sure where you get your info from, but it's incorrect. As ff026 said, the funding has already been approved and allocated, and the project has been actively worked on for the past few years.

The point of my first post was to say that, anyone thinking they have to rush out to buy a $500 digital scanner because they think Rockland will be online within the next year or so, can save their money. It's still a ways off until any equipment is up and running.

Funding has FINALLY been approved is what you meant. This system has been discussed and beaten to death for 20 years or more. Site selection? Let's see where are the tower sites now? Let's have a few more meetings to discuss Clausland Mt., Low Tor, Mahwah Bergen County site, the Nike Site in Orangetown, Blue Hill and a few other sites. It is the smallest county in the state.

Maybe the fire service has finally run low on options to replace the low band equipment? How many times has Rockland lost licenses because of the failure to take action.

it's not as simple as picking the highest spots when you are building a simulcast system. the engineers have to take into account all of the sites as one and work a model from there. then there are the sites themselves, like is there enough AC power, is the tower high enough or strong enough to hold the transmitter/reciever antenna's and microwave.
If it were as simple as pick the highest it would have been done.

we are also using frequencies that are wedged between NYPD frequencies. Some sites can get those frequencies and some cannot.
The fire service is not truly on low band anymore either, yes we get paged and respond on low band but everything else is UHF low power.
