Hi
I'm about 20 to 25km from nearest tower I want to receive
My house is a raised bungalow with 28 inch overhangs all around the roof perimeter
I was hoping for a stand off mount just under the overhang but it's going to stick out far

Just looking to mount receive antenna a few feet above the roofline
Any ideas ?
I could do vent stack mount but I would have to run coax all the way across the roof to the electrical ground rod and block as they are on opposite sides of the house
No space to put a ground rod on the same side as vent stack
Ideas ? Screw or mag mount to metal vents for attic?

How big/tall/heavy the antenna?

Does anyone run their antenna cable inside their vent stack and exit though the side wall of the pipe in the attic or basement? This should be easy if it's PVC. Not sure if there would be any down side to doing this? I wouldn't recommend it on a two story home or if the antenna is real tall.

I did this once using a water heater vent where the coax entered the vent at the water heater. I had to use a Teflon RG-142 jumper for several feet at the water heater end due to the high temp air, otherwise it worked great. The coax was easy to feed down the vent pipe from the roof and water heater vent pipes usually have a rain shield on top making it easy to hide the coax as it exits.

You could try building your own antenna post to put on the side of house with hardware and poles from home depot, you have a heavy duty main support post put into the ground quite sturdy and then you can work off of that.

Small light antenna on a short mast? Consider this:

I would choose the mobile NMO mount to house vent.
A friend did this in one of those gated communities with all kinds of stupid rules.
He just pick out the right antenna then bought a NMO mount with extra cable length from the Antenna Farm and feed it right through the vent.
Working great.

I'm assuming you need patch pads underneath to prevent water through shingles?

I've used some roof tar patch, underneath, in the lag bolt holes and a coat on top. I used to touch it up about every 5 years, but it always looked great.

i like it
i like the vent idea too but not sure how sturdy the vent itself is, reasonably sturdy, but i don't want to have to cut into it to bring the cable out even if it's in the attic and then down
keeping the cable totally not in the venting for the plumbing will make it neater (not from a viewpoint) but for grounding and not poking the venting

the peak mount would also get it taller on the house without a long mast or super tall antenna as the round vent pipe is only half way up the slope of the roof.

i have some of those metal vents that just help vent the attic space i was thinking about screwing into or onto but they also are nowhere near the end of the house, so i'd have a lot of cable to tie down or hammer down with holders

keeping it near the peak on the smaller part of the house will make for a short cable run down to the existing grounding terminal for the mast/mount to electrical ground, and the cable which conveniently has a grounding block for when they had satellite which ties into the meter box

If you are near a gable peak or eave on the roof.... use an eave / gable mount! No need to penetrate the roof at all. Like one of these (I have several) - Link: http://a.co/d/0BAsE2v
