I'm new to this but fascinated by it. I have a Radio Shack pro-26 (rummage sale edition) that I get my local police on, but I keep hearing about "trunked" and digital systems. What type of scanner do I need?

What scanner you need.

For a trunked system, you would need a scanner that trunk-tracks, And fir digital, you would need a digital scanner, I suggest the Uniden BCT396D It's a digital/trunk-tracking hand-held that also has fire tone-out capabilities.

Welcome

Welcome to the scanning world! First off what area of Wisconsin do you scan, both at home and if you travel much and scan other areas with possible large new modern (digital) communication infrastructures.
Second off do you want a hand held or more of a desk top scanner?
I do not know much about the pro-26, I have the pro-97. I have had really good luck with radio shack scanners. I’d recommend either a radio shack or a bearcat scanner. The pro-97 is a good all around scanner. It does trunked very well and is PC programmable, most new scanners are, which is a great thing.
Hopefully that gives you something to think about, radio reference is a great resource to ask questions and people are pretty willing to answer your questions.
