All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Will any version of RPM2 program a Harris radio?
For example, in Motorola, if a radio was programmed using CPS version 36, then only CPS version 36 or higher will read or program the radio.
Is this the same case with Harris radios?

you wont be able to read out but you can overwrite with a lower version.

To make sure I’m understanding.
You can still program the radio?
Yes you can program whatever radios are compatible with RPM2 and overwrite older or newer versions, but if you can't read the earlier version in the radio it will be a hassle to modify or add to the existing code plug/mission plan. Unlike Motorola who will program a radio sent in for repair with the latest version and if you don't have that version you can't program your own radio.

Unfortunately the XG-100P is not compatible with RPM2.

That’s good to hear.

No worries I’m not interested in the XG series

I know this is an old thread and I have never used RPM2 so this may seem like a dumb question but....if my programming guy doesn't have the newest version to match what the radio was last programmed with, and can't "read" the radio, how does one access the buttons/switches and other options in the software for the new radio since it can't be "read" by the older software? Are you just stuck with the default layout? Maybe I am overthinking the process but I am not experienced with RPM2.

There is no 'default' layout. New radios are blank.
The older file can be pushed into a newer radio and the new radio would behave like the older radios.

Is that what you are asking?

Sorry I probably didn't explain it properly. So he takes my mission plan from my XG-100P which is full of HAM stuff. Opens it in RPM2, writes it to a used XL portable I will be purchasing, however, the XL was programmed by a newer version of RPM2 than what he has so he can't read it first. So now the XL is programmed and ready to go. At that point is the XL now "readable" moving forward? I guess I am used to "reading" a "new to me" radio before it is programmed. So I was having a disconnect at how the software knows the features of the XL if it can't be "read" before it's written. Hope that makes more sense.

You cannot read a XL mission plan in RPM2 with a version older than what it was most recently programmed with. You will need to update your version of RPM2 to whatever the latest or whatever last version was used to program to read the in question radio. Alternatively, you can overwrite any RPM/2 mission plan, but you loose the existing data.
