Noticed the communications on all RR freqs in the Phoenix area, in the last few days has "disappeared". Set the voice recorder on for the last 48 hours and nada. Something going on I dont know about?
Thanks

I am hearing BNSF just fine on 161.370 and traffic at the El Mirage yard.

Is this a feed you are talking about? If so it might be an issue with the feed provider.

No feed, just off the air. 161.370, 160.410, 60.785, the usual ones. Used to hear the hotbox at MP 160..0, its gone. No, the antenna is connected!
SDS-100 and PRO-197.
UPDATE: heard dispatcher on 160.785 trying to call a crew several times. Finally said is there anybody out there? Almost sounds like Twilight Zone.

the Hoosier state, baby.
Try squelch, modulation, accidental PL. Squelch to 2 (SDS100), modulation to NFM & all carrier tones to CSQ (off/none). Basic process of elimination. I can tell you the FRA and BNSF just wouldn’t zero-dark-thirty three mainline & dispatch channels. Try scanning the entire AAR band for other local railroad noise.
What type(s) of antennas are you using? I must applaud you for using the SDS100 for anything VHF related, especially railroad. I’ve not had any luck monitoring railroads with the 100.

Well, I have had over 100 hits on 161.370 in the last 12 hours. Check to see if you are able to hear other traffic like the NOAA weather to be sure your radios are working properly.

I am about 20 miles north of you so I hear slightly different traffic. You should be able to hear the Buckeye Local on 160.785 when it is running as well as perhaps traffic out of Gila Bend from where you are.

I am using the PRO-197 for VHF & UHF. Always been a solid performer. No, everything is set correctly. See my update. I did hear a squeak out of a dispatcher. And he was curious why the crew was not responding. I do scan all the radiroad freqs every month or so. I use the hit counter in the WIN500 software to ferret out the freqs that are actually being used. And also paruse the FCC records and mash up with actual use. Last few weeks I am hearing a Hotbox MP 160.0 which is 30 some miles away.

I saw your update as soon as my comment posted earlier. Good that you’re hearing at least some noise.
I wasn’t doubting that your equipment wasn’t properly dialed in, it’s just a good idea to make sure everything on the user-end is set right. Even an accidental wrong setting can make it seem like something went horribly wrong with the equipment.
That’s some pretty good distance on that detector! I have trouble receiving two. One that’s roughly 6 miles away, and another about 10 miles away. Gotta love how propagation works sometimes, eh? Keep us posted if you hear anything else on your scanners.

I also heard the 160.0 detector on the BNSF Phoenix Sub this afternoon when I went into Surprise. I don't recall ever hearing this before, it might be new. It must be in the Wittman area.
