I'm still and learning. I have seen these "Snoop" antennas on Ebay that are supposed to get you a bunch more places. I would like to get Walmart that is about 5 miles away. Will this do it?
If you recommend something please let me know. Luckily I have a condo in Daytona Beach that is on the 6th floor. So I think it helps.

Thanks for any help!

Moved; this question has nothing to do with comms below 30 Mhz.

To answer your question, it's very likely the Walmart is using small handhelds, You're very likely out of range at 5 miles, no matter what antenna you choose (although you're right about the height being a significant advantage).

I have one of those "Snoop" antennas and it is not any better than the stock antenna, but in your case being 60 feet above the ground you may have better results.

As previously stated you will not be able to pickup a handheld operating inside a commercial building located five miles away.
