It looks like the RS USB-PC Interface Cable 20-047 has been discontinued. A friend stopped in a RS store today and purchased the 20-047 for $19.97. The spokesperson said they would be that price until they are all gone.

This was in Hampton, VA.

They do find them hiding in boxes from time to time. They get shipped to the store and not everything gets inventoried. I got mine when I bought my Pro-106 back on Black Friday. It had paperwork from 2006 in the package. I didn't need the drivers since I have them installed and they work on 4 other devices..

Is this that same as the 20-546 Programming Cable ? I have one and can't get it to work.

Maybe I need this 20-047 instead ??

yes exact same cable , Did you install the drivers Also make sure comport shown in windows matches the 1 in the software. depending on the scanner you will NOT need the 3" extension part.

The link I posted several hours before your post shows that the 20-546 & 20-047 cables are not the "exact same cable". Additionally, the 3-inch pigtail is not required for any GRE-made scanner.

You may not need to install drivers. I have mentioned it before and I will repeat it again. You may not have to install drivers. USB drivers are generally used for many purposes. I have 4 different devices which use USB cables and I only use one driver for all of the cables I use. The only difference between devices is which port it assigns for a given application.

For My Yaesu FT--8800R it assigns a different port than for my Wouxon KG-UV2D radio programming cable and a different one for Win500 and another for a different application. Always check in Device Manager when you connect a cable to be assured which port is being used for the cable or application. Don't get too bottled up with drivers if you already have them for another USB device.

Price reduced

Hi,

The price on the RS cable should be $16.97 now. That's what I just paid at Radio Shack. I believe it should be the new low price everywhere, but who knows?

I have the 20-047 cable I bought 4 yrs ago (at full price, lol) and I never used the disk and never installed drivers. I just plugged it in and away I went.

Since the price seems to be dropping, I may pick up another one just to have around.

You can find out what port it's plugged into by going to Control Panel -- Device Manager. Mine's in Com4.

Good Luck!

Does anyone have the 20-047 or the newer cable they would like to sell?

Have you tried your local Radio Shack? You can always call them and ask. As I stated in another thread here, I bought mine recently when I bought my '106 and it was one that was lying in some box that didn't get accounted for for a few years. They do get misplaced and inventory misses them from time to time.
