On black friday I bought a pro-163 for 149.99 and a two year replacement warranty for 29.99. I seen today where RS 36 hour sale that includes the same scanner I bought for 119.99. So I took my receit back to RS and asked if they'll honor the 30 day price guarantee. The salesman didn't have a problem doing that but the manager said I would have to pay full price on the two year warranty that I bought, which was 49.99. The net difference refund would then be 10.00 dollars. Not much of a savings I thought. I told the manager I'll just cancel the two year warranty I bought and refund me that, he tried to convince me that a extended warranty was a good thing to have because sometimes you'll get a power surge even with a surge protector and fry the scanner. I said to the manager it really doesn't make much sense to pay 50 dollars for an extended warranty on a scanner that I bought for 120 dollars. So I cancelled the warranty and got a refund of 29.99, and of the scanner, the salesman refunded the 149.99 and resold it at 119.99. My total refund was 64 dollars and some change. It's funny the purchase price of the extended warranty of 29.99 was only good for black friday only. It was a good experience with the manager, he treated the me good, but I wonder that there was something a little unethical about the warranty price fluxuations. And I want to ask what you all think of purchasing an extended warranty, was it a mistake to cancel it? Let me know your opinion please.
